Beginnings

Caterpillars and snowmen from class one with my Beginning Glassblowing students at DC GlassWorks!

Class one was all about gathering out of the 2,000 glass furnace, turning and trying out tools & equipment for the first time.

Tonight we're introducing blocks to shape the glass (and getting a taste of color with paperweights!).

Crafting a Message

Thank you to everyone who came out for our inaugural Community Craft Party! We loved seeing you craft it up in our new space!

We asked everyone to make tiny affirmations as seen in the "You Are So Very Beautiful" Craftivism project. Paper was the hands down favorite medium. Below is a peek at a few of the messages our crafters sent out into the community.

And good news my crafty friends--that was so much fun we're going to do it again. We've already got our next Craft Party on the calendar for Saturday, September 24. Save the date!

New studio space!

We have some exciting news to share with you! Craft Commons, which first hit the streets (in a truck) in the summer of 2014, is embarking on a new adventure next month and we hope you'll come along. We've "parked" the craft studio--moving all our tools and equipment into a bigger studio space. That's right, more room to craft!

Our new home is in the Gateway Arts District in Hyattsville, Md., which is home to more than 100 art studios, great shops and some tasty places to eat. We're sharing space alongside a great group of talented glass artists, painters and sculptures at DC GlassWorks. We're excited to be part of such a vibrant, creative community and can't wait to share it with you!

To celebrate our new space, we hope you'll join us on Saturday, July 16 for an Open House Style Craft Party. Drop in between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, enjoy some snacks and use all the things to craft something amazing.

How you #CraftUpTheTruck

Fact: y'all know how to #CraftUpTheTruck. From Halloween through the holidays and crafty projects in between, what you crafted was amazing.

Here's a peek at some of the crafty awesomeness we had the privilege of being part of curbside, at Fashion Yards, at Union Market's Thread and upstairs at Logan Hardware.

A big thanks to everyone who has stepped inside the Craft Commons truck, and to Fashion Yards, Union Market and A Few Cool Hardware Stores for hosting us! We can't wait to see what you craft next!
